That the Coonamble Jockey Club is the oldest club in Coonamble having been formed in 1878.
It was one of the earliest race clubs in NSW and it’s influence was widely felt,
The Cup Meeting was famous, and for many years the prize money was more than some Sydney Meetings. The course was well known and it is still one of the best country courses in NSW.
The Australian Turf Guide Racing Calander for 1878 included the Coonamble Jockey Club meet on June 1878.
100 Sovereign Prize Money was on hand.
Seven races were held, the highest stakes being listed as 100 sovereigns.
